Nehemiah 1:1-11
* This is the first of an 11-part series entitled, "Living, Growing, Building Together" used, in part, as an encouragement during the transition of a physical building project along with the Kingdom building project of rebuilding after a period of time with no pastor.
There is much to learn from our man Nehemiah. Nehemiah is one of the great characters of the Old Testament. And it is important to understand some background and historical context when reading the book of Nehemiah.
Going back to Genesis 12, God called Abraham to leave his
country. When Abraham obeyed, his offspring multiplied as God's people. Later the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt for period of time stretching over 400 years. There they remained until God called them out under the leadership of Moses. God's people were eventually allowed to enter the Promise Land - Canaan.
Over 100's of years, the nation of Israel endured struggles including a lack of faith as they stepped in and out of God's Will for His people.
A bit of a spiritual pinnacle in Israel's history came when when David became their king. This was because David was a Godly king. There were term limits and David served as king for forty years. When a king is true man of God, he has influence when it comes to Godly living and the knowledge of God.
